Elizabeth Bell Dodd was born in Bedford, Kentucky, January 15, 1813: died at her home near Belknap March 12, 1911. At the age of 17 she was married to John Dodd. They moved from Kentucky to Henry county, Indiana, where they lived until 1848 when they moved to Davis County, Iowa. In 1859 they moved to the farm, where Mrs. Dodd died, living there 62 years. In January, 1874 her husband died. She was the mother of fourteen children, three dying in infancy, Mary the oldest dying when a young woman and James giving his life for his country in the civil war. William of Belknap, Barnett of Boulder, Colo. Thomas of Nebraska, Catherine of California, Jennetta, Henry and Charles of Belknap, Jane of Montana and Alvah of Niwot, Colo., one sister Mrs. Easley of Hamburg and one brother, D. H. Bell of Belknap with twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren are left to mourn their loss. When a young girl she joined the Baptist church, in which faith she lived and died. Mrs. Dodd was greatly loved by all. It had been hoped she would reach the century mark but for the last six months she suffered from cancer and prayed for the Lord to take her home. The funeral services were conducted at her home near Belknap Monday March 13 by the Baptist minister of Bloomfield, after which she was laidto rest in the Lester Cemetery. Deceased was the grandmother of Mrs. J. W.
