WAS A DAVIS PIONEER Father of Attorney W. W. Rankin of Ottumwa, Buried, Tomorrow.
Bloomfield, Feb. 8— (Special.)--- A. W. Rankin, father of Attorney W. W.
Rankin of Ottumwa, who died near here on Monday at the age of 84, was one of the pioneer citizens of Davis County. He passed away on his birthday on the farm he entered in 1843. He is survived by his second wife and seven children.
They are Mrs. Emma Schereck of Brighton, Kas. Frank Rankin of Perkins, Okla.
Henry C. Rankin of Harden, Mont. Mrs. Floral Munn of Drakeville Arch E. Rankin of Diagonal, Walter Rankin of Ottumwa and Mrs. Jessie Dunlavy of Belknap.
Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be at Drakeville.
RANKIN.—Monday, Feb. 6, 1911, at his home near Belknap, A. W. Rankin, father of W. W. Rankin of South Ottumwa. The decedent was in his eighty-sixth year, and died from paralysis. He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away thirteen years ago. Four sons and three daughters survive. The arrangements for the funeral will be announced later.
OBITUARY.
Alfred W. Rankin
Alfred W. Rankin one of Davis County’s first pioneers and best citizens died at his home near Belknap Monday of this week. His death caused by paralysis.
He had been ill for the past five years. Mr. Rankin was born February 6, 1827, and died February 6, 1811. As his death occurred on the anniversary of his birth he was exactly 84 years of age at the time of his death. He was born in Adams County, Ohio. He came to Davis County, Iowa, May 1, 1843, and entered a homestead on the land in which he ever after resided. He was married January 6, 1853 to Mary Jennings, a sister of Dr. Jennings of Drakesville. To this union was born ten children, three of whom died in Infancy. The children Jiving are: Mrs. Emma Schueck, of Dighton, Kansas, Mrs. Flora Munn of near Drakesville, Iowa, Mrs. Jessie Dunlavey, of near Belknap Iowa, Frank Rankin of Diagonal, Iowa, Henry C. Rankin of Hardin, Montana, Walter W. Rankin of Ottumwa, Arch Rankin of Diagonal, Iowa. Mrs. Rankin died January 3, 1899. Mr.
Ran kin married Mrs. Nancy E. Emanuel December 8, 1902. She cared for him tenderly and carefully during these five years of illness preceding his death. The funeral was held at the home on Thursday Feb. 9, at 2 p. m. Interment was made in the Drakesville cemetery.
