T. J. Lawson, 84, Dies On Sunday
Had Lived In Southeastern Iowa Entire Life; Born in Davis County.
Thomas Jefferson Lawson, 84, a southeastern Iowan all his life, died at the home of his son, Levi T. Lawson, 2024 Emma St., Sunday at 11:50 PM. He was the son of Nathaniel and Rachel Lawson and was born in Davis County February 28, 1853. For the last 16 years he had lived in Ottumwa, 15 of which he had spent in the employ of the John Morrell & Co. He had been retired for several months because of ill health. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ella Mendenhall of Portland, Oregon; two sons, Bige C. Lawson of Douds and Levi T. Lawson of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Lucinda Hanm of Ottumwa; one brother, Riley Lawson of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Manda, in 1894, and by one daughter, and two sons. The body is at the Johnson’s funeral Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.
