Fractured Hip Leads To Death
Mrs. Mattie Swanson, 73, Sustained Injury Six Months Ago.
Complications from a hip fracture brought the death Friday at 11 PM of Mrs.
Mattie Swanson, 73, at her home on Mowery Ave., Ottumwa route 4. Mrs. Swanson had been a resident of Ottumwa for 55 years. Mrs. Swanson suffered the fracture and a fall about six months ago. She had been ill since. She was the daughter of Eli and Rosella Stringer and was born in Davis County July 28, 1864. She was a member of the Enterprise Rebecca Lodge No. 132 and the Daughters of Veterans No. 12. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Edna Swanson at home; three sons, Roscoe of Chugwater, Wyoming, Harold at home and Raymond of Chugwater, and one grandson, Donald Swanson of Chugwater. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, in 1932 and by three children in infancy. The body is at Johnson's funeral Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements. The family request no flowers.
