"R. J. Templeton Rites Held At Perry"

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. August 11 at the Perry Methodist church for R. J. Templeton, 81, who passed away Friday evening at his home at 1002 W. Fifth street in Perry. Death was due to a heart condition with which was due to a heart condition with which he has been confined to his home much of the time the past few years. Rev. Glenn Toole, associate pastor of the Perry Methodist church, officiated at the service. Burial was at Rippey cemetery.
Mr. Templeton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard John Templeton was born April 10, 1871 at Momence, Ill. Here he grew to manhood and was married Dec. 21, 1896 to Miss Birdie B. Wells, also of Momence.
The Templeton family moved to the Yale, Iowa locality from Momence in 1908 and in 1924 moved to a farm near Rippey, which was their home until 1941 when they retired from active work and moved to Perry.
Mr. Templeton was a 60 year member of the I. O. O. F. lodge, a member of the Perry Emcampment, the Perry Rebekah lodge and the Three Quarter Century club. He was the last of a family of 13 children.
He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs. Lester Summy of Redfield; Mrs. Stanley Wernli; Mrs. Dick Stickle of Dawson; Mrs. Everett Thornburgh and Mrs. LeRoy Overman of Rippey. Also, surviving are 24 grand children and 24 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Stonehocker and an infant daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Overman, Barbara and Randy attended the sixth annual Templeton reunion at the Sportsman Park near Dawson Saturday. There were 50 present. All relatives were descendants of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Templeton who made their home in the Rippey community for a number of years. The cooperative dinner at noon was followed by a business meeting and social afternoon.
