The obituary of Millard L. Murphy as it appeared in the Dallas County News Sep 22 1983 P3-4:
REDFIELD --- a SERVICE FOR Millard L. Murphy, 73 of Redfield was held Sept. 20, 1983 at the Chamberlain-Fisher Funeral Home at Redfield with burial in Harper Cemetery. Mr. Murphy died Sept 17.
He was born Aug.17, 1910 at Bear Grove, Iowa to Owen William and Catherine Burns Murphy.
Mr, Murphy married Maxell Olive Thompson at Winterset on March 7,1932 and the couple had seven children. Mr. Murphy spent most of his married life farming in the Dexter and Redfield area and working at Redfield Brick and Tile.
Preceding him in death wer his parents, five brothers and three sisters, daughter and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, three sons: Virgil of Redfield; Bobbie of Casey and Teddy of Adel; three daughters, Carolyn McCorkel of Dexter, Peggy Goetz of Fontanelle and Karen Love of Redfield; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.Following is the obituary of Maxell Olive Murphy which appeared in the Dallas County News 7 Oct 1993, P 3-5 and the Dallas County News 14 Oct 1993 P 6-2:
WINTERSET --- a FUNERAL FOR Maxell Murphy,79 of Winterset was held Oct 4,1993 in Redfield United Methodist Church with burial following at Harper Cemetery. Mrs. Murphy died of cancer on Sept. 30 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at Des Moines.
The daughter of Charles and Dora Thompson, she was born Sept. 25, 1914 at Montezuma. She married Millard Murphy on March 7, 1932 at Dexter. She was a homemaker and lived in the Redfield area most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by three brothers , Verle, Kenneth and Lyle Thomspn; by one daughter JoAnn Hoffman, and by one grandson.
Survivors include three sons, Virgil of Council Bluffs, Bobbie of Casey
and Teddy of Winterset; three daughters, Carolyn McCorkel of Dexter, Peggy Goetz of Fontanelle and Karen Love of Redfield; four brothers, Charles Thompson of Redfield, Gayle Thompson of Van Mter and Gaylord Thompson and Leon Thompson, both of Dexter; two sisters, Nila West of Dexter and Patsy Green of Lansing Mich.; 31 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
