In Response To: Abandoned Roush Cemetery (Pam Boyden)

Pam, the Dallas County Genealogical Society has created cemetery listings. If they have done one for Roush cemetery, it would be in Vol. 2 which covers Dallas, Lincoln and Washington townships. The book can be purchased through the Iowa Genealogical Society http://www.iowagenealogy.org/Pubs/IGSCat_D1.htm but it would be nice to know if your info is in it, first! You might contact the IGS http://www.iowagenealogy.org/library.htm and see whether they would look it up for you in their library copy for a couple of bucks donation. Or you could ask the State Historical Society http://www.iowahistory.org/ to do the same; I know they have copies of the books in their library in Iowa City. Lastly, the addresses of the Dallas County G.S. and their "home" library are at the very bottom of the Dallas County IAGenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iadallas/resource.htm They both have copies of the books as well.

IF Roush is not in the books, the Dallas County G.S. is probably going to be your best bet to find out more. They will probably know the most about the cemetery, or can point you to that person. You can only contact them via snail mail, but they might possibly reply via email so be sure to give them your email address.

OH! Since it is just south of Perry, one additional place to check is the Forest Park Museum. Normally, I would suggest the public library in the nearest town, but Forest Park seems to be the contact point in Perry, instead. Email Dallas County Conservation at info@dallas25.org and ask how to contact whomever is in charge of the Forest Park Museum, and then ask that person if they know anything about the cemetery. It's worth a shot since the cemetery really isn't far from the Museum, and since they do have a really nice collection as Dallas County's unofficial history museum.

Hope this helps. Please let me know what you find out and I'll make sure the info is updated on the IAGenWeb pages to help others in the future!
