I noticed some one asking for the meaning of Barngrover and stumbled on a sight that gave this :

Americanized form of German Berngruber, a topographic name for someone who lived by or kept a bear pit, from Middle High German ber ‘bear’ + gruobe ‘pit’ + the suffix -er denoting an inhabitant.
