Susan J. "Susie" Comer, 58, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, after complications from heart failure. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 6, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes, of which she was a member. Burial will follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.
Susie was born on October 11, 1953 in Red Wing, MN to Arnold and Lois (Veith) Olson. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry Lee Comer on August 29, 1987 at St. Peter. Susie was employed with Citigroup Financial Services in Urbandale for more than 37 years, working her way up to a managerial position. An avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, she enjoyed all sports and held a wealth of knowledge in sports statistics. Susie was often the 'go to authority' for solving many disputes. She also enjoyed NASCAR racing, playing pool and spending time outdoors. Most of all, Susie loved being with her family, attending her nieces' and nephews' sporting events as well as other activities. Having no children of their own, their nieces and nephews were like their own children.
Susie is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 24 years, Larry Comer of Grimes; two brothers, Gary (Lynn) Olson of Columbia Heights, MN and Bill (Rhonda) Olson of Perry, IA; mother-in-law, Betty Comer of Largo, FL; four sisters-in-law, Reta (Chris) Hatfield of Urbandale, Rhonda (Brian) Whitney of Cameron, MO, Lori Wiele of Milo, IA and Linda (Jim) Young of Bedford, IA; brother-in-law, Terry (Lory) Comer of Dallas Center; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. Susie was preceded into eternal life by her parents; sister, Sara Wright; father-in-law, Lee Comer; brother-in-law, Tony Wiele; and one nephew, Chase Comer.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, at Iles Funeral Homes, Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Susan J. Comer Memorial Fund to be divided amongst her favorite charities.
