Helen Roberta Smith, 83, of Waukee, IA, (formerly of Melbourne) entered into eternal life, Monday, February 27, 2012 at home. Celebration of Life Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday March 3, 2012 at Pursel- Davis Funeral and Cremation Care. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Helen was born August 15, 1928 to Robert and Della (Martin) Moore in New Providence, IA. On August 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Harvey Smith. Helen worked for Kiowa Industries while raising her children.
Helen was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Wesley Circle, Melbourne American Legion Auxiliary, D.A.R., UAW 893 and the American Hackney Association. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening, raising and showing ponies, and genealogy.
Helen will be missed by her children; Mont (Debby) Smith of Gilman, Mark (Sharon) Smith of Newton and Patricia Smith of Waukee, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and siblings Marjorie Bunte and Robert Moore. She joins in eternal life her husband of 32 years Harvey, two children, Pamela Davis and Michael Smith, a grandchild, Chad Smith and siblings; Bill Moore, Mary Wubben, Irene DeBoer, Anna Marks and Myrtle Cox. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to 1st United Methodist Church in Marshalltown or the American Heart Association.
