John Henry Gross, 79, of Greenwood, S.C., died Friday, Jan. 23, of cancer.

The son of Burt and Emma (Frank) Gross, John was born October 19, 1918, in Blencoe, Iowa. After marrying his wife, Tracie, on May 21, 1936, the couple farmed near Adel for many years. John also worked for Martin Marietta Aggregates of Des Moines until his retirement in 1983. The couple then moved to Cherokee Village, Ark. Following his wife’s death, John moved to Greenwood where he resided with his granddaughter until his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and two sons.

Survivors include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services took place Monday, Jan. 26 at the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter. The Rev. Shirley Lockard of the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter officiated. Interment followed.

Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter.
