Mrs. Charles Johnston Died Oct. 22 at Dexter

Mrs. Charles C. Johnston of Dexter died last Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Dexter hospital. She was 66 years of age.

Mrs. Johnston was the former Mary Elizabeth Penn, daughter of Edwin and Martha Bell Penn. She was born Nov. 26, 1891, northeast of Winterset. Her early life was spent in the Penn Center community, where she was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church.

She was married Sept. 1, 1910, to Charles C. Johnston, of Dexter. Since her marriage, her home had been at Dexter.

She leaves her husband; and six children, Elaine, at home, Mrs. R. C. Williams, Mrs. Willard Brott, C. R. Johnston and E. C. Johnston, all of Des Moines; and Warren E. Johnston of Stuart; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Mrs. Johnston was the youngest of a family of 13 children. Nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death but surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ida Rhodes of Adel and Mrs. Emma McLarnand of Greenfield; and a brother, Elmer Penn of Stuart.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Evans Funeral home in Dexter, conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Williams, pastor of the Dexter Methodist church. Burial was made in the Dexter cemetery.
