Marie M. Ross-Ensley, the subject of this brief memoriam, was the beloved wife of Dr. Bruce Ensley of Shell Rock, Iowa. She passed away at the home in Shell Rock on Sunday, May 15, 1949 following an illness of several month, at the age of 69 years, five months and 12 days.

She was the only daughter in a family of seven children, born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Ross, pioneer residents on a farm in Penn township, between Earlham and Dexter, on December 3, 1879. She received her education in the rural school, the Earlham Academy, and at Wm. Penn College at Oskaloosa, Iowa. Later she was graduated from the Los Angeles, California school of nursing, following this profession for many years.

On September 1, 1909 she was united in marriage to Dr. Bruce Ensley at Waterloo. They took up residence in Shell Rock which continued to be her home throughout her life. Two children were born to this union, both of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Ensley is survived by her husband, three brothers, Jesse A. Ross of Dexter; Wm. G. Ross of Palo Alto, California, and Robert L. Ross of Pomeroy, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her two children, her parents, and three brothers, Albert L. Ross, George F. Ross and Edwin C. Ross.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Shell Rock, Iowa at 9 o’clock a.m. May 18, Rev. G. W. Baker being in charge. The remains were then taken to Dexter, Iowa, where brief services were held in the home of a friend, Mrs. Rose Bookout. Rev. Roy Jones of the Dexter Presbyterian church officiating, assisted by Rev. Baker of Shell Rock.

Interment was made in the Ensley family lot in the Dexter cemetery by the side of her two children.
