Sylvester Barnes Scott was born March 26, 1864 in Warren County, Iowa and passed away at his home in Dexter Thursday morning, November 7th at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 12 days.

He and his parents were farmers and he spent practically all of his life on the farm. He loved his work and took particular interest in his own home which he established on November 13, 1899 when he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Loper of Indianola, Iowa. To this union were born two daughters, Alma Jane Frazee of Wichita, Kansas and Mary Olive Lewis of San Leandro, Calif.

Mr. and Mrs. Scott celebrated their 50th or Golden Wedding Anniversary on November 13, 1939 in Dexter. This coming Wednesday would have been their 57th anniversary. They have lived in Dexter for 26 years. Mr. Scott joined the Odd Fellow lodge at the age of 21 at Milo, Iowa. He was a faithful member for 61 years and at the time of his death he was a member of the Dexter Lodge No. 215.

Pop was a good neighbor and friend to all who knew him. He was a loving and faithful husband and one of his greatest joys was his home and loved ones. He was able to give and take and was well liked by all who knew him.

He had been in failing health for some time but was not considered serious until just a few days ago, he slipped quietly away Thursday morning with his good wife and daughter at his bedside.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two daughters, three brothers, Charles D. and Thomas of Indianola, Iowa and George E. of Ringwood, Oklahoma, together with other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in charge of Rev. J. Neal Clemmer, Rev. S. C. Wadding and I.O.O.F. Lodge. Music was furnished by Martha Webb and Mrs. Lula Weesner. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.

Casket bearers were Harry Giles, Jim Graham, Jim Hill, Gary Wells, Chester Thrailkill and Howard Walker.
