Lillie Catherine Kraemer was born to Andrew and Dora Kraemer in Clinton, Massachusetts on April 19th, 1885. She left our earthly fellowship at her home in Dexter, Iowa, on October 9th, 1941, being at the time of her passing fifty-six years, five months and twenty days of age.

Following her graduation from the high school at Clinton, Massachusetts in 1912 she enrolled for nurses training at the Green Gables Sanatorium in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was graduated from there as a registered nurse in 1915. She did institutional work, working up to the position of assistant superintendent of the hospital, until the time of her marriage.

On March 7th, 1925, she was united in marriage to T. C. LaPorte. In June of 1926 she and her husband went to Wheatland, Wyoming, where Mr. LaPorte was employed as a nurse and technician at the hospital. On July 14th, 1927, Paul Andrew LaPorte was born to this union.

She and her family moved to Stuart, Iowa, in April of 1933. Mr. LaPorte ran a Variety Store in Stuart until his wife’s recent prolonged illness forced him to give it up. They have lived in Stuart and Dexter ever since 1933.

On March 28th, 1937, she united with the membership of the First Congregational Church of Stuart. She taught a class in the primary department of its Sunday School and was a regular attendant at its worship services until her declining health confined her to her home.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, T. C. LaPorte, her son, Paul Andrew LaPorte, one sister, Flora D. Kraemer, all of Dexter; three step-brothers and one step-sister. A brother, George, and a sister, Gertrude, preceded her in death, the brother in infancy, and the sister in 1901.

A host of relatives and friends joins the family in their sorrow over their bereavement.

Funeral services were held in the First Congregational Church of Stuart on Sunday afternoon, October 12, 1941, at two o’clock. They were conducted by the Rev. Verne A. Spindell. Interment, the service being in charge of the Rev. A. E. Cutler, was in the Dexter cemetery.

Mrs. LaPorte was devoted to her home and family. She was also an active worker in the Congregational church and Sunday School when her health permitted. She was a member f the Legion Auxiliary while living here. Her fine womanly qualities and Christian character won many friends who mourn her departure.

Casket bearers were Dr. J. J. Loomis, Dr. Carl Hinkleman, Dr. Henry Bloom, Dr. Andrew Kraemer, Dr. Carl Schwab and E. G. Butterbaugh. The Doctors Loomis, Hinkleman and Kraemer were cousins of Mrs. LaPorte and had all worked with her when she was assistant superintendent of nurses in the Green Gables hospital.

Those attending the services from a distance were the Rev. Andrew Suffa, Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Loomis, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Hinkleman and daughter, Carlene, Mrs. G. Hinkleman and Dr. and Mrs. Henry Bloom, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Andrew Kraemer of Blue Springs, Kansas, Dr. and Mrs. Carl Schwab of Galva, Ill.; Mrs. Margaret Soper and C. J. Hatch of Eldora.
