Mrs. Harriett Black passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 3rd, at the home of her son, Clyde, at Madrid.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon from the M.E. church by the Rev. J. H. Feedline, and burial took place at the Dexter cemetery. Mrs. Black was a former resident of Dexter and mother of Mrs. Albert Armstrong.

Harriet Florence Wood, daughter of Joshua and Amy Wood was born in Stark County, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1861, and departed this life Oct. 3, 1938, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 11 days. March 8, 1883 she was united in marriage with Arthur Black, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Judson Mowen near Redfield, Iowa. To this union were born 4 children: Clyde Black, of Ames, Iowa, Agnes Mills of Los Angeles, Calif., Amy Armstrong of Dexter and Francis Black of Indianola, Iowa.

The greater part of Mrs. Black’s life was spent on a farm in Dallas County, Iowa. When quite young, she united with the Methodist church and lived a beautiful Christian life all her days. She served as president of the Aid Society and was ever ready to do her best for the church and the community in which she lived. About 4 years ago she was bereft of her husband, with whom she journeyed over the great highway of life for more than 50 years.

She leaves to mourn her departure her sons and daughters, 4 brothers, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss this fine Christian woman. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church last Wednesday at 2 pm., conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline. Interment was in Dexter cemetery.
