Flora Brown Simcoke, daughter of Leveret and Lorette Brown, was born in Wyoming, Jones County, Iowa, and died in Dexter, Iowa, January 16, 1934, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 8 days.

At the age of 2 ½ years she moved with her parents to Springfield, Vt., where they lived ten years. In the spring of 1868 they returned to Iowa to a farm 2 ½ miles north of Dexter and she lived in and near Dexter all during the remainder of her life.

She was married to Joseph Hillery Simcoke November 30, 1875, he passing away February 16, 1921. Three children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. One son, L. L. Simcoke, of Stuart, survives. Mrs. Grace Penn was taken into the family when she was 5 years old and was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Simcoke. Beside the son and Mrs. Penn, there are two grandchildren, Meritt and Forest Simcoke, one great grandchild; one brother, Chas. Brown, of Dexter, who survive her. Her father, her husband, 1 brother and 1 sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Simcoke was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Dexter. She was an earnest Christian and a devoted mother and daughter. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and had been secretary of the Dexter Cemetery Association for the past ten years. Her late illness extended over 4 months, during which time she was patient and uncomplaining. Death came to her peacefully as she was visiting with her family Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon, Thursday, from the Methodist church in Dexter by Rev. Fred Moore, assisted by Rev. W. E. Youtsler. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
