William Charles Thornton, son of Oren and Louise Thornton, was born in Finley, Ohio, Jan. 5, 1869, and passed away at his late home south of Dexter, Dec. 21, 1938, aged 69 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was the oldest child in a family of six, four members of his family having preceded him to the Great Beyond. In 1871 he came with his parents to Iowa, settling in Panora, Ia. Later the family moved to Stuart, and from there to Des Moines.

Oct. 25, 1906, he was united in marriage with Cora Holderbaum, to this union was born one child, which passed away in infancy. About 28 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Thornton moved to the farm home where they spent most of their lives happily together. He united with the Presbyterian church at an early date and remained a faithful and devoted member as long as he lived. He was a fine husband, an excellent neighbor, always ready to help those who needed help. He was of a jovial disposition and was honest in his dealings with his fellowmen. Besides his sorrowing companion he is survived by one brother, Frank Thornton of Des Moines, with a host of relatives and friends who mourn the passing of this good friend and neighbor.

Funeral from the Presbyterian church last Friday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline of the M.E. church. Interment in Dexter cemetery.
