Merle Tibben (2004)

Merle F. Tibben was born the son of Arnold W. and Evona H. Krause Tibben on the family farm in rural Adair County, Iowa on May 25, 1934 and died following a lengthy battle with cancer at his home in rural Adair County, Iowa on April 6, 2004 at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 12 days.

Merle spent his childhood growing up on the farm. He graduated from Stuart High School in 1954. Merle and Betty Joyce Campbell were married July of 1956 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, Iowa This union was blessed with three children: Roger, Cindy and Lori. Merle entered the US Army in 1956. Upon returning from the Army Merle worked for Pittsburgh Steel in Des Moines and then moved back to the home farm where he took over the farming operation and has farmed ever since.

Merle was a fan of all sport's events. He especially enjoyed attending games of his children and grandchildren. He loved to fish and the family fishing trips to Canada were his favorite.

Merle is survived by: son Roger Tibben and wife Joyce of Redfield, Iowa; daughter Cindy Kautzky and husband Robert of Redfield; six grandchildren Chris, Clinton, Amy, and Randy Tibben, Paul and Erin Kautzky; one great-grandson Mason Tibben; brother Laverne Tibben and wife Beverly of Stuart; brother Leroy Tibben and wife Geneen of Dawson; and many nieces and nephews.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Evona Tibben and an infant daughter Lori Tibben.
