Benjamin Franklin Myers, the eldest of 18 children of John Q, and Eliza Saylor Myers, was born in Saylorville, Polk County, Iowa, April 23, 1848. He was the first white child born in Polk county, Saylorville was named for his mother’s family when Des Moines was but a small trading station. He closed his eyes on the scenes of earth, Saturday morning, April 8th, 1931, at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 9 day.

He was married to Mary A. King Strait July 16, 1889, at Corning, Iowa, and there were born to them the following children who, with his widow, survive him: Mrs. Florence Wolf of Dexter: Mrs. Ada Jolly of Adel; Mrs. Helen Heimberger of Vienna, Illinois; William M., and Lenore of Dexter. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; two brothers, Alex of Emporia, Kansas and John of Decatur, Illinois; also by five sisters, Mrs. Maggie Boiler Truro, Mrs. Hatttie Crumpacker of Afton, Mrs. Nellie Shillig of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Addie Kilsser of Chanute, Kansas, Mrs. Jessie Figgins of Des Moines, also by Mrs. Lilian Chamberlain Smith of Corning, who lived with the family from early childhood until she attained her majority and who has ever received the same kindness and consideration as if she had been a daughter.

Funeral Services were held at Dexter in the Methodist church with Rev. e. a. Moore, pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church, Des Moines. Interment was made in the Dexter Cemetery.

Mr. Myers was well known in Corning, having resided here a number of years and having may frequent visits back to Corning during the years since he left. He was widely known for as a shorthorn cattle breeder. He was a man of excellent character and many friends will mourn his passing.
