Dexter—A funeral for Richard (Dick) Cooper, 65, of Grimes was held Nov. 17, 1993 at the United Methodist Church at Dexter, with burial following at the Dexter Cemetery. Mr. Cooper died of a heart ailment on Nov. 14 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at Des Moines.

The son of Charles and Eunice Phillips Cooper, he was born June 7, 192 at Chancellor, S.D. He was raised in rural Stuart and Dexter, where he worked as a farmer and as an auto mechanic at Sears in Des Moines for 20 years. Later he moved to Grimes to live with his wife, Darlene, whom he married in 1973. In his spare time, he played with a country western group, “Chet and the Roadrunners.”

He was preceded in death by his father and by two brothers, Rob and Shirley.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; two sons, Steve Cooper of Phoenix, Ariz. and Craig Cooper of Stuart; two step-sons, Terry Fisher and Steve Fisher, both of Des Moines; two step-daughters, Linda McTaggart and Peggy Simmer, both of Des Moines, his mother, Eunice Cooper of Winterset; two brothers, Chet Cooper of Dexter and Cary Cooper of Urbandale; two sisters, Barbara Lovell of Stuart and Charlene Stone of Dallas Center; four grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
