Mrs. Helen Drew, 79, widely known for her Drew Candy Shop, in Dexter, passed away Monday at the Dexter Clinic-Hospital. Mrs. Drew operated the famous candy shop in Dexter for 50 years.

Services will be Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Dexter United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Cantareor and Mrs. Helen Joyce, both of Des Moines. Also five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Helen R. Drew, the daughter of John L. Yaple and Mary A. Yaple, was born June 19, 1897, at Dexter and died October 4, 1976, at the age of 79.

In March of 1920 she was married to Lloyd A. Drew, the depot agent. To them were born two daughters, Helen and Mary.

She was a member of PEO, Eastern Star, the United Methodist Church. When her daughters were in school, she was president of the band mothers club. She has always been involved in community affairs.

In 1928 she started the candy shop, and Drew’s Candy has continued to grow in popularity and business volume through the years.

She is survived by her daughters, Helen Joyce and her son and daughter, Michael and Catherine, and Mary Cantarero, and her sons, Garcia, Luis and Rodrigo.
