Russell M. Lander, 89, of Van Meter, died Sunday, June 17, at Care Center North in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Burial with military honors will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Warren County, Iowa.

Russell was born to Harold and Alice (Roach) Lander. He was a 1940 graduate of Van Meter High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WW II. He spent most of his life farming in the Van Meter and Des Moines area.

Russell is survived by his brother, Frank (Luana) McAllister of Van Meter; sisters, Ruth Young of Ventura, CA, Mary (Gary) Swanson of Dawson, and Bev (Dean) Downing of Milford; and step-children, Lola (Don) Kaufmann of Charlotte, NC, Al (Carolyn) Keese of AR, and Jim (Betty) Keese of Van Meter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Lander; and brother, Harold "Bill" Lander.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Care Center North Activity Fund. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Thur 21 June 2012.
