Anton Pivonka, 89, of Dexter, passed away July 12, 2014 at the Stuart Community Care Center.

Tony as he was known by family and friends was born March 11, 1925 in Brazeau Township of Oconto County, Wisconsin to Wencil and Agnes (Kust) Pivonka. He was raised in Klondike, Wisconsin and attended school there. Tony enlisted into the United States Army on March 25, 1947 and during this time was stationed in Japan. He served as an Automotive Mechanic with the second Echelon until being discharged on November 8, 1949. After his first enlistment, Tony re-enlisted and served from April 6, 1949 until being honorably discharged on November 17, 1951. After being honorably discharged, Tony moved to Carroll, Iowa where he met his future wife, Ila Mae Wegman. They were united in marriage on September 26, 1953 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, and together they became the proud parents of five children, Richard, Joseph, Gene, James and Mary. Following their marriage, they lived in Carroll and Rockwell City until making their home in Dexter in 1955.

In 1955 Tony purchased the filing station and ran the business until retiring in 2000 after 45 years.

Tony was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

Tony enjoyed watching his children’s sporting events, gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting, woodworking, fishing, trips to Wisconsin to visit family, polka and square dancing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Ila Mae in 2012, siblings, Mary, Joseph, Anna, Helen, Emily, and Loddie.

Tony leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Richard (Debra) Pivonka of Sachse Texas, Joseph (Debbie) Pivonka of Redfield, Iowa, Gene Pivonka and James Pivonka of Dexter, Iowa and Mary (Donald) Fillman of Dexter, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Hawbaker of Redfield, Shelley (Remi) Morrison of Adel, Joshua Pivonka of Waukee, Kelsey, Allison and Scott Fillman and Presley Pivonka all of Dexter; great grandchildren, Alexander, Madelynn, Samantha Morrison and Elizabeth Hawbaker; siblings, Julia Zellmer of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Josephine (Jerry) Feltus of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Caroline Wagner of Hartford, Wisconsin, Elizabeth Landvatter of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and Frances (Bob) VanDreel of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.

Burial was made in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, rural Stuart, Iowa.
