Des Moines, Ia., Feb. 27.—One man killed and several injured was the total result of an accident which occurred to the overland limited going west of the Chicago, Milwaukee St. Paul train yesterday at Van Horn, la.
The train was making up for lost time and going at a speed of nearly 60 miles an hour when the engine left the track, turning a somersault, and now stands a complete wreck facing to the east. The baggage and mail cars were piled on top of each other, while the remaining several coaches rest on their side. The killed: C. H. Brown of Perry, engineer, crushed to death.
The cause of the accident is believed to be due to a broken flange. Engineer Brown was one of the oldest engineers in the service of the Milwaukee.
