Vernie L. Lounsberry, 92, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Dallas Center United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will take place at Brethren Cemetery.

Vernie was born in Colo, IA, and lived most of his adult life in Dallas Center. He married Glenace M. Barrett on October 21, 1939, on the Barrett farm near Waukee. After living in California for a year, they moved to Dallas Center, where they farmed and raised their two daughters, Brenda and Carol. Vernie was a member of the Dallas Center United Methodist Church, Rotary, Masonic Lodge and Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. His life was filled with sports, especially golf and bowling. Vernie had a passion for forestry and was always planting and caring for his trees.

Vernie was preceded in death by his wife, Glenace. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda (Don) Blumberg, of Turtle Lake, WI, and Carol (Chuck) Yeisley, of Palmyra, IL; grandchildren, Michael Harvey, of St. Paul, MN, Tracy (Scott) Opfer, of Springfield, MO, Richard (Jaimee) Lorey, of Vancouver, WA and Dawn (Tim) Hawley, of Los Angeles, CA; nine great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Marilyn) Lounsberry, of Nevada, IA; and sisters, Mary Ann (Karl) Rymer, of Eugene, OR and Annabel Sykes, of Chicago, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas Center United Methodist Church, Spurgeon Manor or Iowa Hospice.
