Born on September 6, 1940, to Betty (Hoskinson) and Russell Hotchkiss, Kae was raised in Granger, Iowa, by her grandparents, Pearl (Roth) and Franklin Hotchkiss.

Kae loved country and gospel music and often sang in many venues such as church events, banquets and at the Iowa State Fair for several years as a duet with Janice Olson.

She had many friends and enjoyed meeting with them to talk and have coffee. Kae was instrumental in starting a Curves coffee group that meets Monday mornings at Dahls. For the last several years she had been spending about half of the year in San Antonio and started a Curves coffee group there.

Kae worked twenty years in guidance counselor's office at the Dallas Center-Grimes High School. There she enjoyed working with the students and helping them with schedules or talking to them about whatever they had on their mind. Kae always had home-made cookies or jars of candy ready and waiting in her office for her students and the teachers.

Kae is survived by her husband Sam, daughters, Rhonda (Bob) Mulder of Dallas Center, IA and Melanie (Joseph) Zepeda of San Antonio, TX; and sons Scott (Stacy) Herr of Spring Branch, TX and Jason (Stacey) Herr of Madeira, OH; five grandchildren, her mother Betty Brooks of North Hollywood, CA and brothers Gary Hotchkiss of Granger, IA and Bob (Marilyn) Morrison of New Virginia, IA., and sisters Nancy Howser of Johnston, IA, Belle (Russ) Maurer of Breinigsville, PA, Julia Lee (Steve) Farr of Chapin, SC.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, father and first husband Richard Gunderson, who was a coach and teacher within the Adel-DeSoto school system.
