Larry Lee Davisson, 73, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Per Mr. Davisson's wishes, the body has been cremated, and the ashes will be buried at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church youth program. Condolences can be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
Mr. Davisson was born June 29, 1941, in rural Libertyville, the son of Walter and Nellie Davisson. He married Aleyna Prull May 15, 1966, at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines.
He attended Des Moines No. 5 Country School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959. He went to TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, then joined the Air Force and served as an airman first class in Vietnam. After returning to Iowa, he graduated from AIB with a business degree.
After their marriage, the couple moved to Sacramento, California, where they lived for 12 years before returning to Iowa in 1978.
Mr. Davisson worked various jobs, but retired from Fed Ex in 2012 after 26 years. He enjoyed reading, riding his bike on many trails and watching the Cyclones and Hawkeyes. He especially loved spending time with his seven grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife Aleyna; son, Erik Davisson and wife Donna of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Staci Kraemer and husband David of Fairfield; siblings, Ken Carr of Greenville, South Caroloina(sp), Helen Nicks of Annandale, Virginia, Janice Bannister of Des Moines and Bill Davisson of Bloomington, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry Lee Davisson, a Libertyville native, whose obituary was printed Tuesday in The Fairfield Ledger, also is survived by his sister, Elaine Carr of Greenville, South Carolina. Ken Carr, listed as a survivor in the obituary, is her husband.
