Roger Ralph Jorgensen, 90, a resident of Sunnybrook of Adel, died quietly Monday, November 26 with his family by his side. There will be a veterans service at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 11 a.m. in Van Meter, Iowa Monday, December 3 followed by the main memorial service at Faith Lutheran Church, 602 S. 14th St., Adel at 2 p.m.

Roger was born to Lawrence and Dagmar Jorgensen in Audubon County on January 16, 1922. He married his high school sweetheart, Verda Christensen, in January of 1945 when home on leave during WW II where he served with distinction in the 34th (Red Bull) Division in north Africa and Italy for 3 1/2 years. Upon returning home he went on to college eventually completing his Masters Degree in education and served as an administrator in the Adel school district (now ADM) for 28 years retiring in 1985. He started a family, played baseball, taught school and coached, officiated and participated in countless athletic events. He was honored with induction into the Iowa High School Officials Hall of Fame in 2004. His career in education and athletics gave him the privilege of the mutual influence of thousands of students, athletes, coaches, teachers and friends through the years.

He is survived by his wife Verda of Adel, daughter DeEtta (Loren) Hinger of Boise, Idaho; son Stuart (Charlene) Jorgensen of Linden, Iowa: son Scott (Georgia) Jorgensen of Des Moines; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Des Moines and a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to ADM school district, Superintendants office, 801 Nile Kinnick Drive South, Adel, Iowa 50003.
