David Alan Campbell

On Wednesday, October 9, 2013, David Alan Campbell, 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

David was born January 23, 1939 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Madelon (Simmons) Campbell. Following graduation from Keosauqua High School, David began his career in the U.S. Army. He faithfully served his country at h ome and abroad for 24 years, retiring in 1983. During his service in Vietnam, he received the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He also retired from the USDA in 2007 after 15 years of civil service.

David was a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints and the American Legion.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Raedean; four step-children, Kevin Kessinger and his fiancé Nancy Showers, Karen (Don) Aeschliman, Kristi (Chuck) Garland and Kelly (Rob) Hansen; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Michael (Dolores), Richard (Karen), Norman (Teresa) and Danny Jo; and one sister, Christine "Kay" (Jim) Costello.

Davis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sarah Sue, and brother, Keith.

His family would like to thank all of his doctors and staff at the VA Hospital and the care received at Mercy Hospital/Hospice during his final days.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 4-6:00 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed in his honor to the Grimes American Legion to assist disabled veterans. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
