Katherine Margherita Fillman was born in Dwight, Illinois on September 28, 1864, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fillman, and died at the family residence east of Dexter the evening of October 10, 1956, at the age of 92 years and 12 days. She had been seriously ill since the middle of July. She grew to young womanhood in the farming area near Dwight, Illinois.

On March 31, 1888 she was married to J. B. Fillman and moved to Donahue, Iowa. In 1892, they moved to a farm near Mazon, Illinois, and on March 9th, 1900 to the home east of Dexter, where she spent the rest of her days. Here they raised their family.

She united with the church in her teens, and has always maintained an active membership in it. Only a few days before her death, she made the comment that the Lord had been good to her and that she was ready to go home with her Savior. Until her husband died in August, 1938, they were both active in community life. Since that time she was especially interested in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even during the last three months, though seriously ill, she wanted to know about their activities. She leaves seven children, Irene, Will, Emil, Earl, Louise, Alma, and Fred; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. One daughter, Martha, died in infancy.

Services were held from the First Presbyterian church at Dexter on Saturday, October 13 at two o’clock, Rev. Robert Halloway was the minister. Interment was at the Dexter cemetery.

Mr. Eugene Melson was the soloist accompanied by Mrs. John Shepherd, organist.

Honorary casketbearers were: Will Fillman, Emil Fillman, Fred Fillman, Sr., Earl Fillman. Casketbearers were Fred Filman, Jr., Richard Fredrickson, Clark Carlson, Donald Sutton, Eldon Fillman and Ivan Bierum.
