Earlham Echo – Earlham, Iowa
April 5, 1956

Fae Bland, youngest daughter of William Gilmore and Rebecca Bland, was born August 11th, 1900, at the farm home near Prole, Warren county, Iowa.

She attended country school when a girl. Later her parents moved to Indianola where she served as telephone operator for some length of time.

She was an active member of the Christian Endeavor Society and for some time was pianist at the Indianola Friends church.

On February 2, 1932, she was married to Earl Hadley. A son, Leland Earl, was born to them on August 11, 1939.

The family moved from Warren county to Earlham in 1941. In 1946 they purchased the home in Dexter which was their residence when her husband Earl passed away suddenly on November 20, 1951. Following her husband’s death, Fae and Leland continued to make their home here, making it an attractive place with well kept lawn, flowers and garden. Her interest was largely centered in her home and the welfare of her only son.

Although not blessed with a large amount of this world’s goods, Fae always seemed to know how to make the best of what she had.

She was a member of the Bear Creek Friends church, the Missionary Society and the Athenian Sunday School class.

She had been in failing health for several months but death came unexpectedly at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on March 26th, 1956, at the age of 55 years, seven months and 15 days.

She is survived by her son, Leland, three step daughters, Margaret Harvey, Maxine Carter, and Eleanor Burton; also five sisters, Hattie Carpenter and Ada Berry of Indianola; Vina Speer of Des Moines; Lizzie Bland of Winterset, and Lena McCully of Murray, besides many nieces and nephews. Her oldest sister, Nellie Speer, and only brother, Fred, preceded her in death.
