Macy Garwood, Sr. passed away last Monday night at 11:30 in the Dexter hospital at the age of 94 years. He was one of the oldest residents in Dexter. Mr. Garwood has been very active until his recent illness. He was a member of the Methodist church and attended church and Sunday School regularly. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and it was at a lodge meeting he became ill.

He was born and raised at Redfield and lived for many years on a farm at Dale City. His greatest joy was to work in his garden and to feed and watch his pet squirrels. He also loved birds.

Survivors include two sons, William of Des Moines, and Hobert of Dexter, one daughter, Mrs. Mildred McNulty also of Dexter with whom he made his home. One sister, Mrs. Rosa Bookout of Dexter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive. His wife and a daughter preceded him in death.

Services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at one o’clock. Burial was at Wiscotta.

Macy Eugene Garwood, son of Samuel J. and Mary Borders Garwood was born March 3, 1865 in Dallas county near Redfield. He passed away at the Clinic Hospital in Dexter, October 5, 1959 at the age of 94 years, seven months, and two days.

On April 18, 1887 he was united in marriage to Irene Ellen McGuire. They lived in the Dale City community until her death on March 11, 1934. Since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Mildred McNulty of Dexter.

He is survived by three children: William Everett of Des Moines; Clinton Hozart of Dexter, and Mildred Jane McNulty of Dexter; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; and one sister, Rosa Bookout; also one niece, Nell Bookout of Dexter.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, one brother, Samuel Jesse Garwood, and one daughter, Mary Ethel Mispel of Des Moines.

He was a member of the Methodist church of Dexter and the Odd Fellow Lodge.

Funeral services were held October 8, 1959, at the Dexter Methodist church, with burial at Wiscotta cemetery near Redfield, pastor Robert D. Williams officiating.
