Alfred Irel Manders Dies in California

Alfred Irel Manders, interior decorator, artist and poet died at a San Francisco hospital last week. He was a former resident of Dallas County and Des Moines.

He had undergone heart surgery in 1958, later being released and returned to his duties on part-time basis.

Six weeks ago he was again hospitalized, and his death occurred last Friday. He was interior decorator of one of San Francisco’s largest stores. He was also an artist of note, painting exclusively for Doctors offices, by appointment only.

He had created many beautiful poems, many of which were published.

He was born on a farm near Adel, and attended De Soto and Des Moines public schools. At the age of fifteen he went to California to live, and has remained there ever since.

One brother Ron lives in New York; a half sister, Marlynn is a student at a California University. His father C. R. Manders resides in San Diego, as does three half-sisters.

He was a descendant of the great Horace Mann.

Burial was in California. Relatives in this vicinity Mrs. F. C. Addy, of Winterset, Mrs. Grace Roberts of Colfax, Mrs. Waldron Rogan of Winterset, Mr. H. F. Niendorf of Van Meter and Mr. Roy Fudge of Council Bluffs.
