Charles Edward Nolte, son of Herman H. and Sarah Pagent Nolte, was born at Wilton Junction, Iowa on July 10, 1867 and died October 30, 1954 at his home in Dexter at the age of 87 years, three months, and 20 days. He was one of twelve children, and he spent his early life in Wilton Junction where he attended the public school there. He moved with his parents to Dexter, where he has spent most of his life.

He was married to Laura Elizabeth Thomas, May 6, 1891 at Sheldon, Iowa where he made his home for a few years before moving again to Dexter. They were the parents of six children: Edward Lee Nolte, who preceded him in death; Fay Evelyn Leeper, of Earlham; Fern Elizabeth Carrington, of Des Moines; Mildred Laura Ellis, of Dexter; Orville Thomas Nolte, of Buffalo, New York; and Willard Ernest Nolte, of Stuart.

Mr. Nolte had been active in the Dexter community as a farmer, as the operator of a produce station. He had been active in the Methodist church from his very early life. He had assumed his civic duties and fulfilled them. As a business man he made many friends and kept them. He was a man who kept his work up ready for what came.

His wife preceded him in death. He leaves his children: Fay, Fern, Mildred, Orville, and Willard, seventeen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Olive George of Fairfield, and one brother, Edward Nolte, of LaVerne, California, as well as a host of friends.
