Hal Laverne Hunnicutt was born July 9, 1885 at Salem, Iowa to William and Mary Hunnicutt. He spent most of his life in and around Des Moines, having been raised on a farm at Waukee. July 3, 1908, he was married to Zella Cook at Adel. To this union were born three daughters: Roberta Zella, Margaret, who died in infancy, and Elizabeth Jean.

On the 8th day of February, 1916, he was employed by the Des Moines Railway Company, working until 1958. Since his retirement, he has been employed part-time for the Yellow Cab Company. While at his work, he suffered a heart attack about nine o’clock the morning of April 8, 1960 and was dead on arrival at the hospital.

Hal was a member from childhood of the Friends church and in later years united with the Foursquare Gospel church of this area, to which he was a faithful tither.

Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Zella Hunnicutt, two daughters, Mrs. Roberta McClure of Ankeny, Rev. Betty Carson of Van Nuys, California; one grandson, John William McClure, Jr.; five granddaughters, Mrs. Sally Rhoads, Mrs. Roberta Louise Foreman, Miss Christine McClure, Margaret Jean Carson and Constance Mae Carson; three great grandsons, John William McClure III, Stephen Lee McClure, Timothy Lee Rhoads; two brothers, Elwood of Van Nuys, Cal. and Loyal of Marshalltown; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Slocum of Van Nuys, California, Miss Hazel Hunnicutt and Mrs. Virginia Hershey of Indianola; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The funeral service in charge of Rev. Betty Carson was held at the Hamilton Funeral Home at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, after which the body was taken to the Bear Creek cemetery near Earlham, where a graveside service was conducted by Rev. Willard Reynolds of the Earlham Friends church.

Following the services, several friends and relatives gathered at the church to visit with the family of the deceased.
