Earlham Echo – Earlham, Iowa

Charley August Beeson, son of Benjamin and Mary Beeson was born near Adel, Iowa on September 15, 1875 and passed away early Saturday morning, September 3, 1949.

Except for 10 years spent in Montana, Mr. Beeson lived in Dallas, Guthrie and Polk counties having spent the last eight years in Des Moines.

He was a charter member of the Wesleyan Methodist church of Des Moines, Iowa.

On May 17, 1899 he was united in marriage with Stella Maude Morgan. Three children, two sons and one daughter blessed this union. They are Oral of 2407 60th Street, Des Moines; Mrs. Delcie Garnes, 702 Grove Street, Perry, Iowa and Royal who preceded his father in death October 13, 1929.

Surviving besides his son and daughter are 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and four brothers, Ben of Earlham; Norman of De Soto; Ira of Des Moines; and Stalburt of Idaho.

Mr. Beeson’s wife passed away July 13, 1931.

Mr. Beeson, or grandpa, as the writer and his friends who best knew him, was a man of sterling character and a devout Christian. His upright honest business dealings, his daily, godly walk of life endeared him to the hearts of his loved ones, his friends and fellow men.

The writer who knew his inside life can truly say “There are few like him.”

He was greatly concerned about the spiritual and temperal welfare of his family.

He was a man of constant prayer and on Friday, prior to his death he had gone to a local hospital and prayed with a sick friend and others.

Grandpa will be sadly missed by his family and friends and the loss of his godly prayers will be keenly felt, but we know our loss is his gain.

Funeral service was held for Mr. Beeson on September 6, 1949 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Des Moines and burial was in the Glendale cemetery at Des Moines.
