Grimes formerly of Panora

Norman Russell Cox, 87, son of Archie & Stella Cox, was born December 18, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at his home. He attended Norwoodville, Iowa schools. He served in the United States Navy from February 23, 1944 until his Honorable Discharge on January 21, 1946.

On May 7, 1965, he married Marlene Coulter in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Des Moines. Norman owned his own business at the time but later sold it and he went to work for Container Haulway. It was later sold to Waste Management where Norman worked as the Operations Manager until his retirement in 1982. They moved to Lake Panorama in 1991 and lived there for 14 years. They have made their home in Grimes for the last 7 years.

Norman enjoyed having his family together at his lake home, where he enjoyed taking the family out on the boat. He enjoyed having coffee every morning with his friends in Panora. He has been on 3 mission trips to Mexico. He was very dedicated and involved with his church. He enjoyed Wednesday morning breakfast and coffee at the clubhouse across the street where he lived in Grimes. Norman and Marlene enjoyed spending their winters in Alamo, Texas and Norman was very fond of his dogs.

Norman was a member of the Faith Bible Church, Panora. He is survived by his wife Marlene Cox of Grimes; children, Judy Combs of Waukee; Larry (Diane) Cox of Milford, IA; Dennis Cox of Omaha, NE; Jeanne (Tom) Shattuck of Dallas Center; Norma (Pat) McGriff of Peoria, AZ; Pam (Bob) Rosencrants of Indianola; and Steven (Denise) Cox of Johnston. Numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Sister, Etta Mae Cox of Des Moines; Brothers, Richard Cox of Des Moines; Mervin (Betty) Cox of Colorado; Gene (Suzie) Cox of Des Moines; and Leroy (Mary Jo) Cox of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Stacey Cox, son-in-law John Combs, brothers Verne, Ernest, Art, Bob, and Frank Cox.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Faith Bible Church, Panora. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Faith Bible Church Building Fund, Panora, Iowa. ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Des Moines, Iowa 24 Feb 2013.
