OBITUARY OF MRS. HARY HARPER MARK

Mary C. Harper was born in Washington, Fayette County, Ohio, on January 2, 1840, and passed away at the home of her son Frank in De Soto, Iowa, on August 11, 1934.

Her family moved from Ohio to Indiana, then to Mercer County, Mo., where she was united in marriage to Wm. A. Mark November 1, 1857. They came to Iowa to make their home, and to this union were born seven children, two of whom, Leonard and Sidney, have passed away. The other children are: Mrs. Jennie McKibben of Earlham, Iowa; Mrs. Anna McKibben of Earlham; Mrs. Etta Stanton of Los Angeles, Calif., and Will and Frank of De Soto. These, with 28 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 34 great great grandchildren, her relatives and friends are left to mourn her death.

She had spent the past 12 years of her life in the home of her son Frank and wife, and here, during her last sickness, with loved ones near, she was given the most loving and affectionate care.

Much could be said of her; but in keeping with her own wonderful unassuming manner, we refrain from a more extended tribute.

Mrs. Mark was a member of the Methodist Church of Earlham.

Funeral services were held at the De Soto Methodist Church Monday, August 13, at two o’clock, by the pastor, Rev. S. C. Peterson, assisted by Rev. James Walls, of the Earlham Methodist church. Interment was in the De Soto Cemetery.

The hymns were sung by a mixed quartet: Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Benfield, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. S. C. Peterson, of Van Meter.
