Earlham Echo – Earlham, Iowa
April 7, 1932

Anna Jane Barnett, daughter of Curtis and Sidney Barnett, was born October 9th, 1845 in Keokuk County, Iowa, and died at her home April 3rd, 1932, aged 86 years, five months and 24 days.

They moved back to Indiana where they lived until the fall of 1855 when they, in company with several other families, made the trip to Iowa in a covered wagon.

Anna Jane lived with her parents on a farm about one mile north of Dexter until the time of her marriage to Eli Compton, June 22nd, 1862. The young couple established their home in the Bear Creek neighborhood and was ready to support all activities for the upbuilding of the community, spiritually, and morally. To them seven children were born: Ruth C. Pickett, Elmer M. Compton, Emma O. Crowl, Olive Bennett, Sidna C. Day, Evelyn Boggess, deceased and Harriett Stubbs of Mason City, Iowa.

The husband and father was called from this home, March 25th, 1923. Since that time she has continued to make her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Clyde and Olive Bennett.

She was a birthright member of the Friends Church. She loved the church, its Bible, its members were her dearest friends; she was a friend and supporter of its ministers; its Divine Founder was her life long friend and redeemer. So long as her health permitted she sought its temple of worship. We shall miss her pleasant greeting, her triumphant testimony and earnest prayers.

For more than a year Anna Jane has been confined to her home where loved ones have given her constant, tender care. She bore her physical suffering with a beautiful spirit. Her faith in Christ never wavered.

The morning of March 29th, she was stricken with paralysis from which stroke she never regained consciousness. On Sunday, April 3rd she quietly slipped away to join, “The Church Triumphant, which is without spot before the throne of God.”

Anna Jane, one of a large family, leaves two sisters, three brothers, six children, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, also many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
