Lawrence Thomas Hanlon, 86, of Perry passed away November 30, 2012 at the Perry Heath Care Center in Perry. Services were 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry, Iowa, of which he was a member. Father David Polich officiated with Jan Pattee as the musician. Pallbearers were: Donald Hanlon, Drew Hanlon, Michael Fagen, Steve Fagen, Ron Swartz, John Andrews and Randy Hanlon. Honorary Pallbearers were: Robert Wasson, Mick Ingram, Rick Glass and Roger Weimer. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery with military honors by Perry American Legion Post #85.

Mr. Hanlon was born on January 1st, 1926 in Waukee, Iowa the son of Mark Hanlon and Mary Ellen Andrews. He was married to Killeen Ann Diddy on October 10th, 1969 in Perry, IA.

Lawrence was a self employed heavy equipment operator for over 50 years, and he very much enjoyed his work. Only recently, did he part with his favorite Caterpillar tractor which dug many ditches and graves throughout Dallas County. Lawrence was often heard remarking “he couldn’t leave here on earth until he had attended everyone else’s funeral!”

Lawrence answered the call to serve his country during World War II with the U. S. Army in the Philippines & Guam where he received a Bronze Star for his service during the Battle of Mindanao.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Killeen (1997), his brothers Francis (2003), Bernard (1986), Jerome (2003), and David, who died in infancy.

Left to mourn are his 3 children: Elizabeth (Aaron) Rife of Colorado Springs, CO; Kathleen Hanlon and Laura Hanlon both of Des Moines, IA; a brother, Dr. Donald (Dorene) Hanlon of Adel, IA; a sister, Mary Ellen (Roger) Putman of Dallas, TX, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, his lifelong friend Robert Wasson of Perry, IA and many other friends as well as his constant companion, his dog Avey.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry and may be left at Murdock Funeral Home. ~ Murdock Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa Dec 2012.
