DEATH OF A GOOD MAN

Last Thursday afternoon our people were shocked to learn that Joseph Jackson had died very suddenly. At noon he complained of not feeling well, but retirned to his work. He soon returned home, laid down and with one gasp was dead.

The deceased had lived in Perry about twenty years, and was universally esteemed by all his acquaintances for his genial disposition, his sterling integrity, and his many kindly acts. Perry had no better citizen, and when his death came a good man went to his reward.

The funeral services were held Saturday at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Coffman, who spoke with much feeling. His sermon was a most impressive one. The church was packed to the doors, and many were turned away. His casket was literally buried in flowers, touching testimonials of his worth.

The deceased was born in London, England, in 1826; came to America at the age of six years to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In 1849, he moved to Stark county, Illinois, where he was married. He came to Dallas county in 1876. He leaves a wife, two sons and seven daughters to mourn his death, all of whom have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

NOTE: Joseph Jackson was the son of James Jackson, who was born in Rothwell, West Riding, Yorkshire, England; and his wife, Elizabeth Jennett Towne, who was born in London, England. He married Frances Eleanor Taylor June 14, 1849 in Peoria, Illinois.
