GIDEON MCKIBBAN

Gideon McKibban, son of Samuel and Mary McKibban, was born in Ohio, Jan. 4, 1855 and with his parents, came to Iowa the same year, having lived on the same farm ever since. He died at his home March 1, 1916 at 12:30 p.m. at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 25 days.

He was married July 20, 1876 to Jennie Mark. To this union was born eleven children, the eldest of whom, Gertrude, died at the age of 23 years. The others; Ed, Pearl, Evert, Wilda, Harry, Myrtle, Esther, Dean, Dewey, and Nita, still live to mourn with their mother the death of their husband and father.

He was converted and joined the church at Hickory Grove, at the age of 33 years and has been an active member ever since; being a constant reader of the Bible. During his life he held many responsible positions in the church, thus helping to build up God's cause.

He was stricken with apoplexy of the brain in December, and while at times he seemed better, he gradually grew weaker, but was not considered seriously ill until the last few days, when he failed very rapidly. He bore his affliction patiently and his whole mind was centered on one thing, and that was for the boys to take care of mother, as he would be gone. Death came without a struggle and he went to sleep in the arms of Jesus.

He leaves besides his wife and children, 16 grand children, two sisters, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hicks of Dallas Center, assisted by Rev. Hulse, pastor of the U.B. church at Hickory Grove. Interment was made at the McKibban cemetery last Saturday afternoon.
