RONALD SMITH, FLORIDA

Ronald Gene Smith, 70, of Crystal River, Fla., died April 6, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. Private cremation is under the care of Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River.

Ron Smith was born June 25, 1938, to Alfred John and Opal Irene Smith of Van Meter and was of the Catholic faith. Ron was a retired heavy equipment operator and worked with the Monarch Cement Company of Des Moines for more than 40 years.

He is survived by two sons, Rod Smith of Wauchula, Fla., and Tim Smith of Johnston, Fla.; two daughters, Tammy Meyer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Angela Henry of Winterset; his companion, Phyliss Blend of Homosassa, Fla.; a brother, Randy Smith of Imperial Beach, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Ethell of Eustis, Fla.; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
