Thomas Edward Young Sr., son of Annis Dexter Young Sr. and Ann Arnot Hynd Young was born April 22, 1918 in Colfax, Iowa and died January 14, 2005 in Perry, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 22 days.

Tom attended rural school and completed one year of college. On April 8, 1974, Tom was united in marriage to Jean Frances Hull. They were the parents of five children: Maggie, Wanda, Cliff, Nathan and Tom Jr. The family made their home in Perry and Tom owned and operated a salvage yard. Tom had many interests and hobbies and kept quite busy. He enjoyed demolition derbies and skeet shooting, as well as being quite handy with vehicles. He could design and rebuild vehicles from parts of many. He loved animals and raised pigeons, Doberman Pincers and Rottwielers. Tom was also an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and and playing cards.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Clifford, Larry, Jack, Harry, Annis Jr. and Roy; and his father and mother-in-law Thadeus and Helen Hull. He is survived by his wife Jean of Perry; daughters: Maggie Young of Panora and Wanda Hanysh of Perry; sons: Cliff Young of Perry, Nathan Thompson and his wife Tara of Topeka, Kansas, and Thomas Young Jr. of Newton; fifteen grandchildren; brother William Hubert Young of Rancho Cordova, California; sister Margaret Moore of Perry; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
