Nathaniel Adkins was born in "NY", according to the Census of 1830 in Henry Co, Indiana, and 1840 & 50 in Berriens Co., MI. His spouse was an AMANDA EVARTS, born in "OH". They had 3 children in Indiana between 1830-40, including my great grandmother MARY ANN AKINS (note spelling change for unk. reasons), before moving to Berriens Co., MI. A total of 6-7 children were born to them, and they could have used the last name of either ADKINS (their father's name), or AKINS (which daughter MARY ANN took). The census-taker's for the siblings writing is difficult to read.

Daughter MARY ANN AKINS (B: 13 Nov 1833 Henry Co., IN - D: 13 Feb 1907 Waukee/Dallas Co., IA; Bd; Waukee Cem.) Married a JOHN H. HOFF (B: 1830 Washington Co., OH - D: 1909 Waukee, Dallas Co., IA) on 11 Apr 1855 in Des Moines, IA, and they had 8 children (see Arnold Hovey site, plus 2 he didn't name: Hily Hoff (died an infant on 18 MAR 1875 & is Bd next to the parents in Waukee Cem.); and CHARLES WORTH HOFF B: 1880, moved to Canada and died Oct 1947. I am decendant from John H. & Mary Ann Akins Hoff through their son JOHN CASSIUS HOFF (5 Mar 1875 -10 Mar 1960) & spouse Mabel Mina Tennant Hoff, and their son JOHN RICHARD HOFF (6 Feb 1909 - 4 Nov 1970) & spouse Valetta Florence Scott Hoff.
