In Response To: FRED C & REBECCA J. STRONG (Sandy Schultz)

Hi, my name is Melba McDowell. My daughter is Stacey Dietiker who works with the Crawford County website. Stacey forwarded your query to me as I keep a lot of Talcott information and she thought I might have something to help you out.

I am pasting all the information I have on Fred Stong to you. It contains mention of Becca. The second part is from Memoirs written by A Seagrave. Becca was his second wife.

Obituary of Fred Strong - Denison Review 4-30-1913

Fred Strong

News reached Enison friends on Thursday last that Mr. Fred Strong, formerly of Denison and Crawford county, had died at his home near Virgil, S. D. on Tuesday, April 22nd.

It will be remembered that Mr. Strong removed from their home in Goodrich township to Virgil, S. D. some five years ago where he purchased a farm and established a new home. For many years prior to moving to Dakota the Strong family had lived in Denison and Crawford county, where they had relatives and many friends. Mr. Strong's last place of residence in Crawford was on the Edwin Fink farm in Goodrich township.

Deceased was 56 years old last November and had been married 37 years. He was a son of Mrs. Mary Seagrave, whom many of the older residents remember. His wife was Miss Rebecca Carson and a family of six children had been raised, namely: Emma, Frank, Fred, Hazel, Raymond and Orpha.

Mr. Strong was an honest, conscientious man with a strong christian character, and his death is to be deeply regretted. The remains were laid to rest in the Virgil cemetery.

He is a strong manly fellow and is receiving a warm welcome from relatives and friends. His parents are now near Virgil, S. D. and have done well by the move to the new country.

I found this information in the Denison newspapers as I read them.

I will digress a little here as things occur occasionally in ones life. While working in the store Fred Strong fell in love with a girl Rebecca Carson who was helping on the farm and were to be married and asked me to be at the wedding and wanted me to stand up with them as best man. Things later happened that was never dreamed of at the time. The same as the school House.

Fred & Becca decided to go to Washington. I have forgotten year about 1882.

******

I was married Nov. 25 1922 to Rebecca Carson, so they moved to a Rented place on Indiana ave. block East of Division Street. Alice had a new baby Named Richard, Richard

*********

Went to Los Angeles. Visited My wifes brother and sister in the City then back to Spokane. Sold our home in Spokane and back to Los Angeles. Rented a place in L.A. for 3 ˝ years, bought a place in Glendale lived there 1 year. Sold, then went to Portland.

Stayed about 6 months with Mary Carson as William Carson, Becky’s brother, passed away while we were in Portland. I then bought a place on 43rd St. for $3,000.

Becca and I rented a place in Pomona near Joe Carsons (Becca Brother) in the block that cornered with his. We lived there three months and had the man move out of the place we bought and moved in. I think that was the summer of 37. I furnished the place with 2d hand furniture and we enjoyed the place.

Becca was not very well and in 1940 Frank Strong & Hazel bought a home in Corona Washington 50 miles from L.A. [sic.] Becca not being well Hazel wanted her to come out and stay with her. I let her go and as Gladys and her husband had moved from Everett Washington and were now in Long Beach I had them come and stay with me. I do not remember just when they came, but Becca passed away in May 1942. They were with me then.
