Rites Held Sunday for Mrs. Glad

Wife of Former Lutheran Minister Dies in Kansas; Memorial Service Here

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, 1949 in the Messiah Lutheran church at Kansas City, Kansas for Mrs. N. E. Glad, wife of Rev. Mr. Glad former minister at the Odebolt Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Hegstrom officiated at the service.

Memorial rites were held at the Odebolt Lutheran church Sunday March 13 at one o’clock. The Rev. H. Lester Peterson officiated. During the service John Huldeen sang two selections, "We Shall All Sleep, but Not Forever: and "Safe to the Rock". Interment was made in the Odebolt cemetery beside her husband and son, Eric. Pall bearers were Arvid and Alvin Huldeen, George and Vetus Carlson, Jennings and Frank Berg.

Hulda Sophia Helberg was born 3 April 1873 in Smaland, Helberg’s Parish, Sweden. She came to America in 1880 and located in Lindsborg, Kansas. She was married to the Rev. Nils Eric Glad on 28 Feb 1899 and they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. In 1904 they again moved this time to Council Bluffs and resided there until 1915 when Rev. Mr. Glad was called to the Odebolt-Bethel parish. They lived in this community until 1926, moving in that year to Vinton.

The Rev. Mr. Glad died in Vinton in 1927 and after his death she and her family moved back to Kansas City, Kansas where she has resided since. Although she had been incapacitated by ill health the last few years and she was unable to be as active as before her interest in all things pertaining to the church was as keen as ever.

Surviving her are three daughters, Ruth, Escanaba, Mich., Mrs. Herbert Gronau (Eunice) and Mrs. Gertrude Peterson, both of Kansas City, Kansas. There are three brothers and six sisters, Joe and Robert Helberg, Lindsborg, Kansas, Gust Helberg, Topeka, Kansas; Vera and Edith Helberg, Orting Washington, Mrs. Rollo Timponi, Sherman Oaks, Calif., Anna Helbert and Mrs. Myron Clark, Portland, Oregon. There are also five grandchildren who survive her.
