Rites Held At Kiron --

Kiron...Alma Josephine (Hanson)Ward, daughter of N. A. and Christine Hanson, was born October 28, 1879, in Sac County, near Kiron, Iowa. She was reared and spent her entire life in this area, except for brief periods of residence in Omaha and Denison. She was graduated from the local schools and then continued her education in Denison to qualify as a teacher in the public schools. She taught in the Kiron area for a number of years.
She was married to Herbert L. Ward December 11, 1909. All of their married life was spent in Kiron, where Mr. Ward was engaged in business. Mr. Ward died October 28, 1966.

Mrs. Ward had enjoyed good health, despite her advanced years until February. She was taken to the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, and since then has been cared for at the Denison Nursing Homes. She died at the Home late Friday evening, August 11, 1972. She had attained the age of 92 years, nine months and 13 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and her husband. She is survived by four nieces and one nephew; Mrs. Neva Morton of Denison, Elsie and Jessie Norelius of Kiron and Everett A. Norelius of Denison and Mrs. Irma Buffett of Albuquerque, N. M.

Mrs. Ward was baptized in infancy and confirmed in youth at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Kiron. She served her church in many capacities, most recently as local membership secretary for the Iowa Lutheran Home Guild. She was also a 50 year member of the eastern Star.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 14, 1972 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron with Rev. Reuben Carlson officiating. Rev. and Mrs. Reuben Carlson sang a duet "When Peace is Like a River" and a congregational hymn, "Children of the Heavenly Father:. Gerald Peterman, soloist, sang "Twenty-third Psalm". Mrs. Mervin Buller Was organist.

Pallbearers were Bruce Bergren, Frank Berg, Herman Knief, Wallace Bergren, Clarence Dahl, and Mervin Peterson.

Interment was in the Kiron Cemetery.
