Charles Emmanuel Hamren

Former Resident Passes Away in California (clipping from the Kiron News abt April 1933)

G. A. Norelius informs us that he received a letter from Joe Hamren of Ohoton, Canada, telling of the death of his brother, Charles E. Hamren of North Hollywood, California on March 26th. Mr. Hamren was one of the pioneer young men of this vicinity and was quite prominent in the offices of the community. He was the leading auctioneer here in the 80's. Leaving here about 45 years ago he farmed in Woodbury county for a number of years and later held a position with the Moline Plow Co. and the International Harvester Co. as salesman and general manager.

The following clipping was received from his daughter, Unda, which shows the esteem in which he was held:

"Last rites for Charles Emmanuel Hamren, aged 73, were held in Orrill and Steen chapel Tuesday, the Rev Glenn Randall Phillips and Rev. R. R. Dertwiler delivered funeral sermons. Interment followed in Valhalla Memorial Park. Lankersham lodge of Masons was in charge of services.
Mr. Hamren was born in northern Sweden in 1860, coming to America when he was nine years old with his father, a Baptist minister. The family settled in Iowa.

When the family moved to Crawford county, Mr. Hamren married Minetta Rudholm, the present Mrs. Hamren. For 30 years Mr. Hamren toured the country for the Moline Plow Co., with his famly.
In 1920 he moved to North Hollywood where he engaged in the chicken business for a time. Later affiliating himself with the Fernando Feed and Milling Co.

Throngs of broken-hearted rancher friends were in attendance at the funeral, as he had been widely known and beloved by valley friends. He was a prominent churchman and for five years was chaplain of the local Masonic lodge.

He is survived by Mrs. Hamren, a brother, Joseph, in Canada, and four children: Lloyd of Huntington Beach, and Unda, Lydia and Vandyce of North Hollywood."
